The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for the decontamination, high-level disinfection, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of clean and sterile surgical instruments, trays, and pans within a state-of-the-art instrument processing and sterilizing facility. This role involves operating sterilization equipment, inspecting instruments, and maintaining accurate records to ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities:
- Inspect, assemble, package, and sterilize surgical instrument pans, procedural trays, technical equipment, and surgical case carts.
- Operate steam sterilizers, ensuring proper time, pressure, and temperature levels.
- Perform simple maintenance of sterilizers and prepare cultures to assure sterility.
- Check and adjust medical equipment to ensure proper operating specifications.
- Decontaminate surgical instruments and equipment following established procedures to prevent cross-contamination.
- Receive and store supplies, checking stock against requisitions and maintaining inventory levels.
- Document and fill orders for surgical supplies for patient care areas.
- Maintain records of equipment inventory use and servicing frequency.
- Perform daily quality assurance checks on sterile supplies and instruments.
- Answer unit phone and directs calls accordingly.
- Performs data entry into electronic medical database systems. Documents patient care and related duties appropriately.
- Performs selected patient registration activities.
- Coordinates equipment/supply needs. Notifies appropriate department of equipment malfunction.
Required Skills & Certifications:
- Certified Sterile Processor (HSPA or CBSPD)
- BLS (American Heart Association ONLY)
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Sterile Processing Technician
- Large hospital experience (500+ beds)
- Travel experience (minimum 6 months)
- Two professional references from the last two assignments
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
- Level 1 trauma center experience
- Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER Cert)
- Orthopedic tray experience
Special Considerations:
- Days, weekends, and holidays required.
- On-call/callback responsibilities based on unit needs.
Scheduling:
- 40 hours per week.
- Shifts are determined per unit needs.
