Job Title: Telecommunications Technician
Department: IT
Reports To: Telecommunications Manager
Job Summary: Seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Telecommunications Technician to install, maintain, and repair communication systems and equipment. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the reliable operation of telephone systems, VoIP infrastructure, data networks, and other telecommunication services.
Key Responsibilities: - Install, configure, and troubleshoot telephone and data communication systems (e.g., VoIP, PBX, LAN/WAN).
- Maintain and repair cable and fiber-optic systems, including testing and labeling of cables.
- Perform system diagnostics and upgrades to maintain network performance and security.
- Set up voice mail systems, call forwarding, call routing, and conferencing features.
- Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and internal teams for infrastructure setup or service issues.
- Document all work performed including equipment installed, settings, and system updates.
- Adhere to safety protocols and industry standards during installations and maintenance.
- Provide technical support and training to end users as needed.
- Monitor network activity and identify and resolve issues related to latency, connectivity, or hardware faults.
Qualifications: - High school diploma or equivalent; associate’s or technical degree in electronics, telecommunications, or related field preferred.
- Proven experience as a telecommunications technician or similar role.
- Strong understanding of VoIP systems, structured cabling, and IP networking.
- Familiarity with telecommunication tools and testing equipment (e.g., TDR, OTDR, tone generator).
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to various work sites.
Preferred Certifications: - CompTIA Network+
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
- BICSI Installer or Technician Certification
- Avaya/Nortel/Cisco VoIP certifications (as applicable)
